My latest project was leading the hair and makeup for a new Quentin Tarantino-style mini-series shot in Adelaide. The cast and crew bounced around Hindley St, Goodwood, Myponga, Happy Valley and Christies Beach to shoot episode one of the six-show series called A Nun, A Gun and A Prostitute.

Synopsis:
“The mini-series, A Nun, A Gun and A Prostitute by writer/director Sean King follows the journey of Nostalgia; a high class call girl. But Nostalgia (Vanessa Bockman) is not your typical call girl. When confronted by her disgruntled pimp, Lester, having not received his cut from her last job, Nostalgia’s double life begins to unfold. We soon discover who Nostalgia really is, and she is not the only one in this twisted tale with a secret. This series follows Nostalgia’s quest for a better life, with her morality and courage depicting her as a modern day Joan of Arc.”Adelaide model Vanessa Bockmann stars as the leading lady, Nostalgia, who is on a personal quest to find a better life.” Mr King says “The series aims to tackle social issues but bring in things the audience wants to see the guns, the violence and a little bit of sexiness. It sounds very Quentin Tarantino because there are guns and a sexy woman but I like to think it’s my own style.”

Wow! What a week! In the lead up to the film I had some one-on-one special effects lessons with Adelaide’s best SFX expert Phil Grummet. It was an honour to work so closely with Phil and I will write a post about my lessons with him soon. Some of the makeup techniques that we covered were bruising, bullet wounds and aging and Phil introduced me to a variety of special effects products, including some that he has developed himself over the years.

On the set we had some seriously long days, lots of coffee, flat car batteries and a whole lot of fun. After the seven days we spent shooting together the cast and crew was like one big family. I was a little bit sad to hear “That’s a wrap”.

Ican’t reveal too many secrets of the plot but here are a few behind the scenes previews thanks to Damir from Focal Vision Photography
